The Royal Train runs on bio-diesel fuel
The Royal Train is used by The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh and The Prince of Wales on long journeys around the country. It runs on fuel that comes from used cooking oil.
The Royal Train its first journey powered entirely by bio-fuel on 13th September 2007. The journey was from London to Scarborough and was taken by The Prince of Wales.
During The Prince’s START tour in September 2010, when he visited people doing their bit for the environment, the train took him around the country to various locations including Glasgow, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Bristol, Birmingham and Manchester, before returning to London.
The train is capable of speeds up to 125mph, but when they are on Royal duty are restricted to 100mph.
