Prince's Trust donation
28th June 2006
The Prince‘s Trust announced this week that it had received a donation of £2 million from one of Britain’s most generous benefactors. Lord Laidlaw of Rothiemay has become the youth charity’s largest personal donor with a £2 million donation to help young people get into enterprise in England. The funding will help up to 3,000 unemployed 18-30 year olds to develop their enterprise skills and start-up in business. The donation complements Lord Laidlaw’s own venture, The Laidlaw Youth Project, which supports a wide range of projects for disadvantaged young people in Scotland.
Lord Laidlaw says: “Many young people have great ideas and skills that can enable them to escape difficult circumstances and build a life for themselves but they lack the guidance or support they need. The Prince‘s Trust has shown over 30 years that it provides precisely that support. By working side by side we can give them a brighter future.”
Martina Milburn, Chief Executive of The Prince‘s Trust says: “We are thrilled to receive this most generous donation to mark our 30th birthday campaign. There are more than one million young people who are not in education, employment or training. This gift will make an enormous difference to the lives of those young people who need our help the most. Lord Laidlaw has given a fantastic birthday present to The Trust and it reinforces his extraordinary commitment to investing in young lives.”
Earlier this month The Prince’s Trust announced that its 30th Birthday celebrations were its biggest single fundraising event. As well as raising awareness of The Prince’s Trust’s work among some seven million ITV1 viewers on Saturday 20 May, early indications show that the event will raise in the region of £3 million to help change young lives.
