On Friday 15th January The Prince of Wales made a donation to the British Red Cross to help aid the people of Haiti whose country has been devastated by a massive earthquake. The Prince is President of the charity.
Currently visiting New Zealand, Prince William paid tribute to the people of Haiti in his speech to the New Zealand Supreme Court.
In addition, Prince Harry has sent a message of support to the MapAction team that have been sent to Haiti. MapAction helps aid agencies by providing crucial situational mapping in the event of natural and humanitarian disasters. MapAction teams have worked all over the world, including in Lesotho and in Sri Lanka following the Tsunami in 2005. Prince Harry has been Patron of the charity since 2007.
Prince Harry’s message is below:
“It is with a huge sense of pride that I heard of your rapid deployment to assist in the relief operations in Haiti. I am certain that MapAction, as it always does, will be of huge value to all those struggling to help the people of Haiti in their hour of direst need. My thoughts and prayers are obviously with them, but they are also very much with you at the moment. Godspeed, Harry”.
