The Duchess of Cornwall's family home at Raymill
22nd July 2006
Several newspapers reported that several million pounds of taxpayers’ money was being spent on new security facilities to protect Raymill, The Duchess of Cornwall’s family home in Wiltshire. The newspapers said this contradicted a claim by Clarence House when it published its recent Annual Review that The Duchess had only cost the taxpayer £2,000 last year.
Clarence House responded by saying that it never comments on security matters. It also pointed out that work being undertaken at Raymill had been initiated by the Home Office, and was required because The Duchess spends time at her family home privately.
Finally, it explained that the figure of £2,000 referred to the cost of travel taken by The Duchess in 2005-06 that was funded by the Royal Travel Grant in Aid, and that in explaining this figure it was made clear at the time that security costs were not included.
