The Prince of Wales visits a diabetes centre in Abu Dhabi
28th February 2007
Newspapers today reported that The Prince of Wales had remarked in a brief conversation with Nadine Tayara, a nutritionist based at a diabetes centre he was visiting in Abu Dhabi, that McDonalds, the fast food chain, should be “banned”.
We would like to point out that The Prince did not say the remarks attributed to him - as Miss Tayara herself has confirmed - and that His Royal Highness does not advocate that particular foods should be banned.
He believes in the importance of a balanced diet, especially for children, and in visiting the diabetes centre during his tour of the Gulf with The Duchess of Cornwall The Prince was keen to emphasise the need for children to enjoy the widest variety of food and not to eat any particular food to excess.
