Travel arrangements for TRH's Gulf Tour
20th February 2007
The Daily Mail reported today (20th February) that Their Royal Highnesses chartered a private plane at an estimated cost of £1million for their 10-day tour of Gulf States.
The actual cost of the trip, which is being taken on behalf of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, will be about a third of that figure.
The actual amount will be published by Buckingham Palace later this year in its annual report of Royal Travel.
The newspaper also reported that the private jet had "video conference facilities, showers, 10 full size beds and a walk-in wardrobe".
In fact, the plane has one shower and one bed, and no conference facilities or walk-in wardrobe.
Their Royal Highnesses are in the Gulf to support British Government interests in the region and the choice of transport was made based on a number of factors including security, timeliness and logistical needs.
The tour takes in five countries in 10 days.
