Christopher Smallwood's report on integrated health
16th October 2005
A report commissioned by The Prince of Wales to investigate the contribution which certain complementary therapies could potentially make to the delivery of healthcare in the UK was launched at 11.30am today.
The economist Christopher Smallwood compiled the report with the help of research consultancy FreshMinds. You can read the report in full at www.freshminds.co.uk.
A spokesperson for Clarence House said: “The Prince of Wales is very grateful to Christopher Smallwood and FreshMinds for producing this report and looks forward to reading it with great interest.
“Past research indicates that as many as 16 million people in the UK have used complementary treatments and so there is clear need for reliable information on this subject.
“As Patron of a number of health charities, The Prince of Wales has seen at first hand what a difference integrated healthcare has made for many people suffering from ill health.
His efforts to help people in this field were recognised earlier this year when he was made an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine.
“By commissioning this report, The Prince hoped to further encourage an informed debate about how an evidence-based, integrated approach to health, which draws on the best of both orthodox and complementary medicine, might offer wider benefits.”
