Clarence House to appoint new Private Secretary for Wales

The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall will appoint a new senior adviser for their work in Wales, following the departure of Dr Manon Williams, after twelve years of Royal service.
The Assistant Private Secretary is the senior adviser on Wales at Clarence House and organizes and attends all of Their Royal Highnesses’ Welsh visits, together with drafting speeches, preparing briefings and dealing with all related correspondence. The post holder will also take responsibility for at least one other subject portfolio on a UK basis as well as contributing to the wider planning and strategy of The Prince and Duchess’s public life. Based at Clarence House in London, the Assistant Private Secretary will also continue to have the use of an office in Cardiff.
Clarence House said today that the successful candidate will have a good degree, a proven experience of dealing with senior people and complex issues and preferably be a Welsh speaker.
Dr Manon Williams first took up her post in 1994, departing after five years in 1998 but returning to the Household in 2004. She was Chairman of The Prince’s Trust, Cymru from 2001 to 2004. Manon, who is due to leave the Household next summer, is now moving onto fresh challenges in the private sector.

Not only has Manon brought an innate understanding of, and passion for, Wales, she is also an accomplished musician who has advised His Royal Highness on his many arts patronages, as well as in other areas. During her period in office, Manon has overseen the introduction of The Prince and Duchess’s annual summer visit to Wales, the establishment of a number of charities including The Prince’s Regeneration Trust, the Cambrian Mountains Initiative and the Great Steward of Scotland’s Dumfries House Trust, and the acquisition of The Prince’s home, Llwynywermod, at Myddfai near Llandovery.”
