Corporate leaders unite with The Prince of Wales on World Environment Day

4th June 2009

The Prince’s Rainforests Project (PRP) is marking World Environment Day with a PRP Partner Day. Highlighting the role corporate partners play in helping spread the message that agreement on urgent action to halt deforestation is needed ahead of the UN Climate Change talks in Copenhagen this December, some of the world’s major businesses are assisting in creating a climate for change by supporting the PRP with its sign up campaign.

Following the successful launch of their public awareness campaign on May 5th, the PRP today releases a corporate leaders version of the ‘frog film’ featuring a selection of high profile business leaders who star alongside the project ambassador, the frog, all voicing their support for urgent action to be taken against rainforest destruction. The campaign video includes, amongst others, appearances from Sir Richard Branson (Chairman of Virgin Group), Sir Howard Stringer (CEO of Sony), Justin King (CEO of Sainsbury’s), Steve Easterbrook (CEO of McDonalds UK) and Eric Schmidt (Chairman and CEO of Google).

His Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales comments: “It is absolutely crucial that the private sector becomes involved. After all, it has much of the money, the ingenuity and the skills. That is why I believe a more coordinated approach might help, in somehow ensuring that those who are establishing the policy frameworks and setting the incentives are working closely with the private sector to find the right balance.”
