Prince William and Prince Harry host concert party for children

23rd May 2007

Prince William, together with his brother Prince Harry, have invited over a hundred children and young people aged between eight and twenty three to join them for a special lunch at Wembley Stadium, as they inspect final preparations for the Concert for Diana the following day.

Children who are being supported by the charity WellChild, of which Prince Harry is Patron, will join young Diana Award winners at the special party which is taking place in the Royal Reception Room at Wembley Stadium.

After the lunch, the 200 or so guests, which include parents and carers, will have a unique opportunity to go into the Royal Box and watch one of the performers doing a sound check for the concert the next day.

Also joining the party are a number of Diana Nurses, who provide home care for parents and children with life-threatening or severely disabling conditions such as cancer, cystic fibrosis, AIDS and progressive, degenerative conditions.

Kedge Martin, Chief Executive of WellChild said: “We are thrilled that our Patron, Prince Harry and his brother William want to host this very special party at Wembley.

“Laughter and smiles are very effective medicines and for the chronically sick children WellChild supports, this event will bring so much joy and happiness for children who often suffer a great deal.’

Maggie Turner, Director of the Diana Award said: “Our Award holders are all young people who have shown amazing courage and selflessness.

“It’s wonderful to think that their contribution to their communities is being recognised with this lunch party.

“I’m sure it’s exactly the kind of thing Diana herself would have done, and we could not be more delighted.”
