The Duchess of Cornwall reads Hairy Maclary by Dame Lynley Dodd to school children
9th November 2012
Fifteen school children enjoyed a memorable Wednesday morning at Clarence House recently, when The Duchess of Cornwall read them a story!
The Duchess chose the book ’Hairy Maclary from Donaldson’s Dairy’ by the New Zealand author Dame Lynley Dodd, which is her grandchildren’s favourite. The pupils, from Years 1 and 2 at St Peter’s Eaton Square School in London, gathered round The Duchess in the Garden Room at Clarence House to listen to Her Royal Highness read.
When the story was over, The Duchess presented each of the children with a copy of the book as a souvenir of their visit. Her Royal Highness also signed a copy for the school library.
The Duchess is Patron of the National Literacy Trust, BookTrust and First Story, all of which help to promote literacy in young people.
