The Prince of Wales visits Merchant's House in Brechin

8th October 2012

The Prince of Wales will today visit a historic building fully restored after lying empty for 40 years.

Known as The Duke of Rothesay when in Scotland, His Royal Highness will tour Merchant's House in Brechin, Angus.

In his capacity as president of The Prince's Regeneration Trust, The Duke will inspect the restoration work and meet the property's tenants. He will also meet local craftsmen and apprentices involved in Brechin's Townscape Heritage Initiative, of which Merchant's House is a key part, and tour the main gallery of the Town House Museum.

Merchant's House, a post-medieval dwelling, lay empty for four decades and its neglect meant it was once a blight on the High Street. Restoration work has removed the asbestos roof, repaired the rare 15th Century roof structure, reinstated the gable chimney, repaired the stonework and applied a protective coating of traditional lime harl to the exterior.
