Dumfries House: Preserving Scotland's Heritage
26th August 2010
Dumfries House is a magnificent Georgian mansion in East Ayrshire, Scotland that was saved for the Nation by The Prince of Wales.Built in the 18th Century for the 5th Earl of Dumfries, the most notable feature of the house is the unrivalled collection of exquisite furniture which includes works by Thomas Chippendale.
In 2007 His Royal Highness joined with a consortium of partners and personally took out a £20million loan, in order to prevent the house and its contents from being split up at auction and sold for £45million. Three years on, the work to provide a future for Dumfries House continues in the work of The Great Steward of Scotland's Dumfries House Trust.
The house is now open for events, functions and weddings. Find out more at www.dumfries-house.org.uk
