Sentebale relaunches its website

23rd May 2007

The Sentebale website has been relaunched with a fresh look and more information, photographs and updates than ever before on the work of Prince Harry’s Lesotho charity.

Founded by Joint Patrons Prince Harry and his friend Prince Seeiso of Lesotho, Sentebale is committed to transforming the lives of Lesotho's orphans and vulnerable children.

Lesotho is a country that has been ravaged by HIV/AIDS. Nearly one third of Lesotho's people are infected - the third highest rate in the world.

Out of a population of 1.8 million, Lesotho has 180,000 orphans. The average life expectancy is only 34 years.

Sentebale seeks to support the long-term funding of small but dynamic organisations in Lesotho that really make a difference in their communities at a grass-roots level.

The new website at www.sentebale.org highlights the projects that Sentebale is supporting in Lesotho. One such project is the Lesotho Child Counselling Unit (LCCU) run by Lydia Muso, a tireless and passionate campaigner for children's rights.

After working for 10 years in Sweden caring for children with social problems in a paediatric hospital, Lydia felt inspired to provide similar care for children in her own country and opened up her own two-roomed house as a refuge for abandoned and neglected children.

A grant from Sentebale is helping her do this.

Other features on the newly revamped website include:

  • News, events and links to online resources
  • Register for updates facility
  • Information on previously awarded and current grant recipients
  • Profiles of fundraisers and information about how you can help
  • The ability to donate online and a Sentebale shop
  • Frequently Asked Questions about the work of Sentebale

Along with a number of other charities, Sentebale has been nominated by Prince William and Prince Harry to benefit from the net proceeds from the Concert for Diana on 1st July at Wembley.

The concert has been organised by the Princes to celebrate the life of their mother Diana, Princess of Wales.

Sentebale is a word that people in Lesotho use when they say good-bye to each other: it means “forget-me-not”.

It was chosen as the name of the new charity because the two Princes see its work as a memorial to the charity work of their own mothers; and because its aim as an organisation is to ensure that Lesotho, and the current plight of its children, is not forgotten.
