The Prince of Wales gives an interview about climate change to the Royal Meteorological Society
29th September 2008
The Prince of Wales has spoken about the need to fight climate change during an interview for the Royal Meteorological Society’s Weather magazine.
In the latest issue, which can be read on the Society's website, The Prince talks about how his interest in the environment began as a child.
The Prince speaks about his many visits around the United Kingdom where he has seen first-hand the effects of climate change on communities such as Boscastle and Sheffield, which have recently been affected by extreme flooding.
In the interview, The Prince says: “For me, the crux of the problem is – and I only pray that I will be proved wrong – that the clock of climate change is ticking ever faster toward midnight.
“We are simply not reacting quickly enough and we cannot be anything less than courageous and revolutionary in our approach to tackling climate change.
“If we are not, the result will be catastrophic for all of us, but with the poorest in our world hit the hardest.”
The Prince of Wales also speaks about the importance of preserving the world’s rainforests in the battle against climate change, and explains why he has put together The Prince’s Rainforests Project to find solutions to this important problem.
