In June 2004, The Prince attended the 60th Anniversary D-Day commemorations in Normandy, France.

The Prince unveils a statue in Le Mesnil of the celebrated D-Day leader Brigadier James Hill who led the 3rd Parachute Regiment into Normandy. The Prince meets Royal Navy veterans in Ouistreham in Normandy, where he attended a ceremony to honour the contribution of the Royal Navy and the Royal Marines. The Prince meets a Canadian Mountie at the Canadian cemetery in Beny-Sur-Mer in Normandy where he laid a wreath. The Prince pays silent tribute to the fallen soldiers of the 4th/7th Royal Dragoon Guards at a memorial in the village of Creully in France. The Prince chats to veterans of the 3rd Parachute Regiment at the unveiling of the statue of Brigadier James Hill. The Prince waves from the cockpit of the replica Horsa Glider. Beside him, sits Jim Wallwork, the first glider pilot to land at 00.16hrs, 6th June, 1944.
