Channel 4 documentary on Paris tunnel – Clarence House statement and letter
4th June 2007
Clarence House today published on its website a copy of a letter sent by Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, the Private Secretary to Prince William and Prince Harry, to Channel 4 about its documentary on the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, “The Witnesses in the Tunnel”, which is due to be broadcast on Wednesday 6th June.
The letter, sent on Friday 1st June 2007, requested on The Princes’ behalf that Channel 4 remove from the programme several images depicting the crashed car while The Princess was still in the wreckage, and an image of a medic clearly administering emergency treatment (to The Princess) in an ambulance. In the letter, Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton asked for a response to his request from Channel 4 by Monday morning, 4th June.
As of this morning, Clarence House had not received a reply from Channel 4. In publishing the letter, The Princes reluctantly feel that they have been left no choice but to make it clear publicly that they believe the broadcast of these photographs to be wholly inappropriate, deeply distressing to them and to the relatives of the others who died that night, and a gross disrespect to their mother’s memory.
