HRH celebrates 20 years of the Birmingham Royal Ballet
10th March 2010
The Prince of Wales and Lady Sarah Chatto celebrated 20 years of the Birmingham Royal Ballet this evening.
The Prince is President of the ballet company, and upon arrival at the Birmingham Hippodrome was greeted by senior figures ahead of a gala evening of music and dance.
2010 marks Birmingham Royal Ballet’s 20th year in the City of Birmingham since the company - then Sadler’s Wells Royal Ballet - moved from London in 1990.
Twenty years on the Birmingham Royal Ballet is celebrating two decades of success with an exciting array of productions this year, kicking off with three celebratory galas at the company’s home theatre, the Birmingham Hippodrome.
The show 20 Years Celebration highlights excerpts from Birmingham Royal Ballet’s most memorable repertoire.
Along with multi-media presentations commemorating the company’s local, national and international achievements over the last two decades, excerpts from The Nutcracker, Romeo and Juliet, Carmina Burana, and Ballet Changed My Life: Ballet Hoo! were included, along with performances from students of Elmhurst School for Dance, the Birmingham based vocational school of which The Duchess of Cornwall is Patron, and the Royal Ballet School.
The Prince and Lady Sarah watched the performance, attending a brief reception of staff and supporters and unveiling a plaque in the interval, before meeting performers onstage.
