HRH presents medals and commendations to servicemen and women at RAF Odiham
14th May 2008
The Prince of Wales presented medals and commendations to servicemen and women at an RAF Odiham in Hampshire.
His Royal Highness, who is Air Chief Marshal of the Royal Air Force, presented the campaign medals and commendations to about 85 personnel who have recently returned from operational deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.
The Prince also gave three pilots their wings, presented good conduct awards and watched a flypast by Chinook helicopters based at the airfield.
The Prince then met service families and local schoolchildren.
Wing Commander Dominic Toriati, who commands No 27 Squadron based at Odiham, said it was "great" The Prince had come to the base.
"He has taken an interest in RAF Odiham for some time," he said.
“He has had people from the station over to Clarence House for a face-to-face discussion on what the personnel are doing."
RAF Odiham is home to The Chinook Wing of the RAF.
It supports three operational squadrons - No 7 Squadron, No 18 Squadron and No 27 Squadron - and the Operational Conversion Flight.
In recent years these squadrons have seen a number of operational tours to Afghanistan and Iraq in support of British and Nato forces.
Chinooks from the base are currently serving in Afghanistan.
