9th March 2010

The Duchess of Cornwall invited London Mayor Boris Johnson for tea at Clarence House this afternoon.

Her Royal Highness and Mr Johnson met at Clarence House to discuss their mutual interest in the help given to victims of sexual assaults in the capital.

Last November The Duchess visited a rape crisis centre in London to meet women who are receiving long term counselling after being attacked.

More recently Her Royal Highness visited the Haven in Paddington, a support centre for victims, before meeting detectives from the Metropolitan Police's Sapphire unit which investigates serious sexual assaults across London.

Yesterday, Mr Johnson announced that three new rape crisis would open in the capital this year - increasing their number to four.

The development came on International Women's Day with the first new centre due to open in West London next month.
