The Duchess of Cornwall visits Emmaus in Greenwich
14th December 2011
The Duchess of Cornwall paid a visit to residents of Emmaus in Greenwich today, adding her own touch of festive cheer to the community.
Visiting the homelessness charity, The Duchess thanked the staff for the work they do, wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and adding a Union Flag Christmas decoration to the tree.
Her Royal Highness became Patron of Emmaus UK in 2006, and has since made regular visits to Emmaus communities nationwide. Emmaus tackles the problem of homelessness through a network of self-supporting Communities, where people are offered a home, work or a sense of belonging.
After a tour of the charity shop, The Duchess saw the woodwork and electrical workshops, meeting residents – known as companions in the Emmaus community - as she went.
Presenting residents with a Christmas gift of biscuits, The Duchess was then given a present herself – a photograph of The Prince of Wales opening the centre in 1994.
