The Duchess of Cornwall visits the set of Strictly Come Dancing

25th November 2011

Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood welcomed Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall to the set of BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing today. Her Royal Highness, President of the National Osteoporosis Society and a huge fan of the show, was given a tour of the set by Craig, who has been a Patron of the charity since last year.

The Duchess watched the professional dancers rehearse for their group dance before meeting and chatting with all of the cast members. She then saw Anita Dobson and Brendan Cole practising their cha cha, and Harry Judd and Aliona Vilani rehearsing the quick step for Saturday night’s show.

Her Royal Highness chatted with the cast members before making her way to see how the technical team work their magic and finding out more about how the show is put together. She then met with the costume designers and was able to have a close up look at the dazzling outfits and accessories.

Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall and Craig hit the headlines in 2009 when they performed an impromptu cha cha at a visit to St Clement Danes School in London on World Osteoporosis Day. They have worked closely with the National Osteoporosis Society on a number of projects promoting the importance of healthy bones to people of all ages. Studies have shown that dance outperforms walking as the exercise of choice for bone strength.

Craig Revel Horwood said:  ‘I am thrilled to have Her Royal Highness visit us all here on Strictly. I know what a huge fan of the show she is and am delighted that, with the National Osteoporosis Society, we can continue to work together to promote dance as a fantastic way to keep fit, have fun and look after our bones.

National Osteoporosis Society Chief Executive Claire Severgnini said:

"In our 25th Anniversary year, the National Osteoporosis Society is absolutely delighted our President, Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall, has been given a tour of ‘Strictly’ by our fab-u-lous Patron, Craig Revel Horwood. We are extremely grateful to Her Royal Highness, who works so hard to raise awareness of the importance of healthy bones."

Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall has been President of the National Osteoporosis Society since 2001 and this month marks the 10 year anniversary of her presidency. The National Osteoporosis Society has been working with Strictly judge Craig Revel Horwood for a number of years and in 2010, Craig became a Patron.

This year the National Osteoporosis Society launched ‘for a breakfree Future’, its ambitious new campaign to change the future for people with fragile bones. The National Osteoporosis Society wants to eradicate unnecessary broken bones, saving thousands of lives and helping people to live their lives without pain and disability. They are calling for urgent action to support their campaign to reduce the number of people suffering unnecessarily because of the impact of fragile bones.
