The Prince of Wales celebrates WaterAid's 30th anniversary
6th September 2011
The Prince of Wales tonight met Glastonbury Festival founder Michael Eavis to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the charity WaterAid.
They were joined by a host of supporters at a reception at Clarence House to recognise the organisation's achievement in providing almost 16 million people from the world's poorest communities with safe water.
In partnership with the festival on Mr Eavis's Worthy Farm, it has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds. The Prince has been President of the charity for 20 years.
"So many rural villages are completely dependent on WaterAid water pumps," Mr Eavis said.
Commending The Prince's dedication to the cause, he added: "He's such a good chap - he genuinely supports these charities with such conviction, he is so passionate about it.
"He really knows what he is talking about and is so committed to the cause; water supply is a real issue in the world today."
WaterAid was founded in 1981 to help provide clean water, safe sanitation and hygiene education. Today it works in 26 countries across Africa, Asia and the Pacific region.
