TRH attend a concert to raise funds for country churches
24th July 2006
The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall tonight attended a concert to raise funds for country churches at St Mary's Church in Old Hunstanton, Norfolk.
They greeted local dignitaries before entering the church and The Duchess accepted a posy from seven-year-old Haley Shaw.
The guests then enjoyed a performance by Chinese pianist Lang Lang, 24.
The Prince is Patron of Music in Country Churches, a charitable trust set up in 1989.
The trust aims to arrange weekends of music in rural churches of exceptional beauty and interest, and to raise funds to assist those churches with repair and maintenance costs.
In a programme for the event, The Prince said he was delighted to be invited to attend the first of two concerts which the trust has arranged at the church.
His Royal Highness said: “This large church in its unspoilt rural setting is supported by only a very small population and its need for help with the cost of its upkeep make a visit from Music in Country Churches particularly appropriate.”
