TRH attend the 2006 Royal Variety Performance

4th December 2006

The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall attended the 2006 Royal Variety Performance at the Coliseum in London this evening.

Stars of this year’s performance included Jamelia, Ken Dodd, Meat Loaf, Rod Stewart, Sugababes, John Barrowman, Take That and Hannah Waddingham.

The evening also featured a medley of songs from the hit West End shows Wicked and The Sound of Music.

The Royal Variety Performance is a charity event in aid of the Entertainment Artist's Benevolent Fund.

The evening’s entertainment was hosted by television presenter Jonathan Ross who joked: "I should get a knighthood for saying it (Royal Variety Performance), let alone doing it."

Reformed boy band Take That took to the stage and were greeted with rapturous applause.

They performed their new number one Patience and their hit Pray - and delivered some of their old dance moves for the latter.

Singer Barry Manilow generated even bigger cheers than Take That, entertaining the guests with his medley of songs from Can't Take My Eyes Off You to What the World Needs Now.

After the show, The Prince and The Duchess met the stars backstage including Katie Price and her boyfriend Peter Andre who sang together onstage.

The Duchess chatted to the reformed Take That and met members Gary Barlow, Jason Orange, Mark Owen and Howard Donald.

After meeting The Duchess, Gary Barlow said: "She said 'I'm so glad to see you back together'. How about that!"
