TRH attend the Royal Show at Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire
4th July 2008
The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall tucked in to cheese and apple juice today as they visited an agricultural show.
Their Royal Highnesses sampled unpasteurised ewe's milk cheese during their trip to the Royal Show, at Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire.
The Prince and The Duchess are fans of the cheese, made by a family at Holker Farm Dairy in Cumbria, and were delighted to be given samples to take home.
Ian Robinson, whose daughter, Nicola Gott, makes the product with her husband Martin, said: "Prince Charles loves this cheese. They both adore it.
"He wanted to sample it and was really pleased when we gave him some. He realises we have a passion for the product and he is very supportive of small businesses like this. He likes to see this type of product."
The Prince and The Duchess also tasted meat from the Barn Bacon Company in Newark, Nottinghamshire.
Damian Allen, 25, events organiser for the company, said: "The Prince was really interested in our business. He talked about the supermarkets and how they are less personal and you don't get to see how the produce is made. He was a nice guy."
Their Royal Highnesses then split up - the Prince inspected cattle and pigs while Camilla looked around the garden section and food hall.
The Prince was particularly taken with the Lincoln Reds, one of the UK's oldest native breeds of beef cattle.
Lincoln Red farmer Robert Needham said: "They are a native breed and Prince Charles was delighted that native breeds are becoming more popular.
"He is a great supporter and it was wonderful to have a word with him. He is very interested in livestock and farming."
