TRH open a START shop in Bristol
6th September 2010
The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall attended a number of engagements as part of the START tour on sustainability in Bristol.
On arrival at the City’s Cabot Circus shopping centre, one of the UK’s largest retail-led urban regeneration projects, Their Royal Highnesses were welcomed by the crowd and the sound of the City of Bristol Pipes and Drums.
Their Royal Highnesses chatted with members of the public and met children from local secondary school Orchard School. The Prince met with local apprentices from his charity The Prince’s Trust as well as members of Business Action on Homelessness, run by Business in the Community.
The Prince was also introduced to Sara Sanders, the Roadshow Manager for Cycling City, a scheme that encourages people to cycle in and around Bristol and South Gloucestershire.
Sitting on a special bike, designed to carry luggage and be easy to pedal, Ms Sanders offered The Prince a ride back to the train station. He told her: "You must be very fit cycling around all the time."
Their Royal Highnesses also opened a START shop where members of the public can receive advice on sustainable living, before being shown into a garden area where The Prince, helped by the Duchess, planted some chives in a planting bed designed for people who might not have a garden.
Walking around the stalls, Their Royal Highnesses tasted ‘Brown Cow’ vanilla yoghurt, locally produced on a family farm near Pilton in Somerset.
Peaches Golding, who was responsible for creating the START centre in Bristol, said she was delighted The Prince and The Duchess visited the South West.
