TRH visit injured service personnel at new hospital

The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall spent nearly three hours meeting injured service personnel, their families and military and civilian medical staff at the new Queen Elizabeth Hospital and The Royal Centre for Defence Medicine in Birmingham yesterday.
In a bid to boost morale for those who have been injured fighting abroad, Their Royal Highnesses visited the hospital, each taking time to go to different parts after talking to the civilian and military medical staff who work there.
The Prince sat and talked to a number of injured military personnel, while The Duchess visited military families who are staying in accommodation near the Edgbaston hospital.
Visiting Selly Oak Hospital is always placed highly on The Prince’s agenda, who last year made three separate visits to meet with injured service personnel and talk to them about their experiences.
The Royal Centre for Defence Medicine is a focus for medical research as well as providing training for defence personnel in partnership with the University of Birmingham and the University of Central England.
The new Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB) has taken over all in-patient care from nearby Selly Oak Hospital.
Their Royal Highnesses’s visit was the first Royal visit to the new QEHB, which admitted its first patients on 16th June and will be fully operational by June 2012.
