TRH visit Tenby during Pembrokeshire Fish Week
30th June 2010
The crowds got a taste for royalty today as The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall toured an outdoor food festival.
Their Royal Highnesses were the flavour of the day in Tenby, west Wales, as they continued their annual summer tour of the principality.
Up to 2,000 adults and children lined the streets of the popular seaside resort during their two-hour tour.
They called at restaurants and food outlets throughout the town centre and were given a number of local products to taste.
Their visit coincided with Pembrokeshire Fish Week which saw the couple meet food and drink producers and fishing industry representatives.
The annual event, now in its 11th year, is a celebration of local seafood and the county's coastline, estuaries and rivers.
It kicked off on 26th June and runs until 4th July with 250 events, from cooking master classes to tastings, all over the county.
Businesses in Tenby got a boost today from the large numbers of people attracted to the town by the royal visit.
"It was very busy today because their were so many locals and tourists attracted to the town," said Leanne Nicholls, who works at the town's The Qube Restaurant.
"They both stopped in for a drink on their way by, and there were hundreds of people outside.
"The Prince had an Earl Grey tea and The Duchess had some water. Something like this can only be good for Tenby.
"But the hope is that it will bring in more business in the longer term as well."
Their Royal Highnesses headed off for an official visit to Dyfed Powys Police Headquarters, outside Carmarthen.
While there, The Prince presented 31 officers with long service medals, awarded by royal warrant after 20 years service.
He went on to hail the force for having the lowest crime rate in the UK which he described as a "truly remarkable achievement".
The last time The Prince visited the police headquarters was in 1987 when he officially opened the new building.
Later, Their Royal Highnesses went on to the Lyric Theatre in Carmarthen where they were entertained by the Carmarthen Youth Opera.
Before leaving, The Duchess of Cornwall was publicly presented as the youth opera company's patroness, her first in Wales.
This evening The Prince will host a reception at his Llwynywermod home for the Cambrian Mountains Initiative, of which he is Patron.
The initiative helps to sustain traditional farms and farmers in mid-Wales.
