The Duchess’s interest in animals and animal welfare is reflected in many of her Patronages.

The Duchess takes a keen and knowledgeable interest in horses.  Her Royal Highness enjoys riding in her spare time and often attends racing and other equestrian events. The Duchess is Patron of the British Equestrian Federation and regularly attends the London International Horse Show.  In 2007, she also became Patron of the Scottish National Equestrian Centre.

During Their Royal Highnesses' tour of Pakistan in November 2006, and Egypt in March 2006, they visited the Brooke Hospital for Animals. 

Later that year, The Duchess became President of Brooke which operates worldwide providing free veterinary treatment for horses and donkeys, and advice for their owners on how to care for them.

In 2007, she became Patron of the Kennel Club Charitable Trust, a dog charity, and in 2008, Her Royal Highness became Patron of the Moorland Mousie Trust, which aims to promote and conserve the Exmoor Pony.

Her Royal Highness is also Patron of the Animal Care Trust, part of the Royal Veterinary Hospital.  The Duchess visited as Patron in January 2006 to support their Paws for a Cause Appeal.

In November 2006, The Duchess became Patron of the Langford Trust for Animal Health and Welfare which is a charity that supports the University of Bristol Veterinary School to promote the practice, advancement and teaching of veterinary science. 


In October 2010, The Duchess visited Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, where she opened the new cattery there, as well as visiting some of the home’s residents. Watch the video here: The Duchess of Cornwall visits Battersea Dogs and Cats Home

In August 2011, The Duchess of Cornwall adopted a puppy named Beth from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home. Beth is a Jack Russell Terrier and was left at Battersea when she was 12-weeks-old. Her Royal Highness decided to keep the name Beth which was given to the puppy by the Battersea staff.

The Duchess of Cornwall is fond of the Jack Russell breed and already has two dogs of the same breed called Tosca and Rosie.
