The Duchess of Cambridge supports her husband in his charitable work and in January 2012, took on four new patronages of her own: The Art Room, The National Portrait Gallery in London, Action on Addiction and East Anglia Children's Hospice (EACH).

In addition, The Duchess of Cambridge has become a volunteer in the Scout Association, and will volunteer her time privately with groups in North Wales and elsewhere as opportunity arises.

The Duchess of Cambridge began her private research into charitable causes in September 2011. The private programme undertaken by The Duchess consisted of meetings at St. James’s Palace and private visits to a number of sites. In addition, The Duchess personally considered all requests for Patronage that were sent to her.

The Duchess will, over the coming months, undertake both private and public visits across the United Kingdom to the organisations of which she is Patron and Royal Patron.


Royal Duties

Part of The Duchess’s work is to support The Queen at home and abroad. Already The Duchess has undertaken a number of engagements with her husband, and the couple went on a Tour of Canada in July 2011.  From 30th June to 8th July, Their Royal Highnesses visited a number of places in the Commonwealth country, including Ottawa, Quebec and Alberta.

In 2012, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will visit Malaysia, Singapore, Solomon Islands and Tuvalu as part of Her Majesty The Queen's Diamond Jubilee year celebrations.  Their tour is part of a number of visits by members of the Royal Family to every Realm as well as undertaking visits to Commonwealth countries, Crown Dependencies and British Overseas Territories throughout 2012.

Along with Prince Harry, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have become Official Ambassadors for Team GB and Paralympic GB in the lead up to, and during, the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.  Their Royal Highnesses will join a group of 27 of Britain’s most inspirational and accomplished Olympians from previous Games who were unveiled as 2012 Ambassadors by the British Olympic Association earlier this year.

Past work

In 2008 prior to her marriage, Her Royal Highness launched First Birthdays, a junior brand to Party Pieces.  Her role within the family business included catalogue design and production, marketing and photography.

Before studying at the University of St. Andrews, The Duchess of Cambridge undertook a number of work-experience and gap year jobs, particularly working as crew on Round the World Challenge boats on the Solent for a period of a few months.
