In Kind Direct – Under 5s Project
The Under 5s Project is a registered children's charity based at St. Mary's Church in the most deprived area of Greenwich. The charity is a 'Sure Start' provider – part of the government's programme to deliver the best start in life for every child by bringing together early education, childcare, health and family support. All the children that attend are referred by outside agencies such as health visitors, GPs and social workers. The centre goes beyond the basic services of a family unit; providing advice leaflets on health issues and parenting, free trips for parent and child, summer play schemes and also works with groups from the local community. 80 per cent of families attending are from minority groups and many of the children the centre supports have special needs.
Along with obtaining the basic supplies needed for the running of the organisation, the centre sometimes orders goods from In Kind Direct to pass on to some of its members who are falling on hard times.
In May the organisation ordered Lush "shimmy shimmy bars" from In Kind Direct to use as gifts from the children to their parents as part of the "Soaps for Someone Special" project.
Ella Carr from the organisation said: "In Kind Direct provide a lovely selection for our mums and dads who attend our projects. We couldn't do what we do if it wasn't for In Kind Direct. The people we work with wouldn't be able to afford it otherwise."
