Kemp and Kemp Catering

PRIME - Kemp and Kemp Catering

Richard was an accomplished project manager in the heritage attractions industry, but in 2010 funding dried up in this sector and Richard found himself looking for new positions.

Both Richard and his wife Karen, had always wanted to run their own business, but both had always had the luxury of jobs, with sickness benefits, paid holidays and (apparently) security – not something one easily gives up on a whim.

2010 was different however, with falling pension prospects and a ‘raggedy’ jobs market in a failing economy, it occurred that this was the time to invest in the two of them.

With some experience in selling pastries and pates from Karen at local farmers markets in the West Midlands and building up a huge network through these markets of local suppliers - the couple decided to make this into a more formal business to set up their own Wedding catering company, “Kemp and Kemp”.

Through research and Richard’s experience of marketing and PR, the couple developed a website, Facebook page and a network of wedding venues that recommended Kemp and Kemp. Richard came across The Prince’s Initiative for Mature Enterprise (PRIME), and recognises “PRIME’S unique selection of resources and advice specifically for over 50’s entrepreneur.”

Having attended a PRIME workshop Richard said, “These workshops are a key way for over 50 entrepreneurs to learn about businesses and are an excellent form of networking.”

Kemp and Kemp catering already have 26 weddings booked for 2012 and are looking forward to growing their business even more in the future.
