The Prince’s Scottish Youth Business Trust – Greg Allison, Garages4you
Greg Allison was awarded a loan of £5,000 by The Prince’s Scottish Youth Business Trust to help firmly establish his business Garages4You.com.
With no background in the car repair or servicing industry; it was his experience as a customer that prompted his idea. His website compares local garage labour rates, servicing and MOT costs across Scotland. The service guarantees customers get the best deals possible, as garages on the website offer special rates available only through Garages4You. When Greg first approached garages with his idea, they were unsure of the concept, however Greg had his proposition clear: garages only charge the discounted price and only pay Greg a ‘finder fee’ when they have business – and they still make a profit. The website is free to use and users are able to view genuine customer reviews online before making a booking via the website.
Inspired by Kwik-Fit founder Sir Tom Farmer, Greg wrote to him for advice on starting his own business and was amazed when Sir Tom replied. Thanks to his advice, the business has grown to become the largest online retailer of MOT and servicing in the UK. In fact, Sir Tom has taken such a keen interest in the business that Greg proudly calls him his mentor.
