The Prince's Cup, Jamaica
During The Prince of Wales’s visit to Jamaica in January 2000, His Royal Highness visited the slums of the inner-city communities in Kingston.
As one way of bringing together divided communities, The Prince suggested establishing a six-a-side football competition.
The Prince’s Cup, as it is now called, is intended to focus the energies of young people on sporting competitions.
With the help of the Football Association and the British High Commission, 130 teams from 76 inner-city communities took part in the first Prince’s Cup in the Summer of 2001 under the banner ‘The Promotion of Peace and Partnership in the Inner-city’.
