The Prince of Wales begins his day at his desk in Clarence House working on his papers and making phone calls. Today The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall are heading off to Birmingham for a day of engagements. They visit the Pump, a youth community centre in the city which The Prince helped to create.
The Prince's idea was simple: to allow young people to help design and build their own centre. Since January 2006 almost 50 young trainees have worked on the project giving them the opportunity to learn some of the skills needed to work in construction. Their Royal Highnesses meet as many people involved in the project as possible.
The Prince and The Duchess visit Edgbaston to see the Prince's Trust Cricket initiative in action. This scheme aims to help young people gain valuable confidence and skills and The Prince met some of those taking part in the programme. He also chats with England Cricket players Sajid Mahmood, Vikram Solanki and Ashley Giles about his own experiences of playing cricket in the West Indies when he was stationed there with the Navy. The Prince tries his hand at batting with Sajid Mahmood and Ashley Giles bowling.
As Patron of the Birmingham Royal Ballet, The Prince, together with The Duchess, visit Elmhurst Dance School to meet aspiring young dancers and to tour the new facilities at the school which will help it develop and work more closely with the Royal Ballet. The highlight of the visit is a dance recital in the school's new auditorium. A week after this visit, Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall accepted the school's request to become their Patron.
After a day of engagements in Birmingham, The Prince and the Duchess return home to Highgrove in Gloucestershire, where The Prince hosts a reception for the Cotswold Care Hospice. Cotswold Care is one of a number of hospices of which The Prince is Patron, and which he supports in any way he can. The guests enjoy a tour of The Prince's garden before joining him on the veranda for drinks where His Royal Highness says a few words.
Most days end the way they start, with The Prince working on his papers before retiring for the evening.
