I have been coming to the centre twice a week since my husband died nine years ago. If it wasn’t for Age UK I would be on my own all day as my family lives a long way away. I really enjoy taking part in the outings they organise. I have a lot of friends here.
73 branches of Age UK have joined In Kind Direct’s charity network and have received almost £150,000 worth of goods. Items such as cleaning products and toilet roll are used in the day-to-day running of Age UK resource centres across the country.
Receiving these products from In Kind Direct makes the budgets of Age UK branches go much further, allowing them to spend more money on core activities. This has become more important than ever this year following funding cuts.
Many of the day centres also order products such as toiletries and washing powder to give free of charge to the elderly people who access the centres. Without In Kind Direct they would not be able to provide this additional service for elderly people on low incomes.
Age UK Camden runs three resource centres for people aged over 60 in the borough. They offer activities such as gardening, arts and crafts, keep fit and darts. The centres also act as a hub for services to older people such as a shopping service, home help and advice.
