The Duchess of Cornwall becomes Patron of Arthritis Research UK

The Duchess of Cornwall has become Patron of Arthritis Research UK.

Her Royal Highness has become Patron of the charity in the same week that it launches its first National Arthritis Week.

The Duchess is a keen supporter of health charities working to raise awareness of the importance of maintaining healthy bones, having lost both her mother and grandmother to Osteoporosis. Her Royal Highness is President of the National Osteoporosis Society.

Dr Liam O’Toole, Chief Executive of Arthritis Research UK said:  “We are thrilled to welcome Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall as the Patron of Arthritis Research UK. We are delighted to receive her support and hope that together we can encourage more people to support the charity’s work to address the daily struggle against the pain and disability of arthritis faced by one in six people in the UK.

“It has been fantastic to see so many people across the country supporting our first National Arthritis Week and help to raise much need money for our research and bust common myths about arthritis. We are delighted that Her Royal Highness is lending her support to Arthritis Research UK, which has  close links with the National Osteoporosis Society and whose work Her Royal Highness has championed for many years.”

In the UK 10 million people, including over 15,000 children, are affected by arthritis and musculoskeletal conditions, yet over two thirds (68 per cent) of the public are unaware that children under the age of ten can be affected.
