The Duchess of Cornwall joins Australian chef Lynton Tapp for a cookery demonstration

The Duchess of Cornwall marked Australia Day by attending a reception celebrating Australian food and drink in London today.

The Duchess was joined by renowned Australian cook Bill Granger, John Torode from MasterChef and some British supporters of Australia - Strictly Come Dancing judge Darcey Bussell and Stanley Johnson, father of London mayor Boris Johnson.

Chatting to one of the guests at the reception held in central London Camilla mentioned her son who last year released a new cook book Let's Eat Meat.

She said: "He's always going to Australia, writing about food over there - he's developed a nice little pot belly."

The event was hosted by Australia's High Commissioner Alexander Downer and the organisation Tourism Australia.

The Duchess watched a cooking demonstration by Lynton Tapp - the 2013 Australian MasterChef runner-up - who cooked wagyu beef fillets and prepared some raw kingfish.

And Her Royal Highness, whose father was a wine merchant, later sampled some red and white wines from Australia.

In a short speech The Duchess told the guests: "But coming and tasting that kingfish and that beef was out of this world - I just want to put it into a bag and take it for dinner but I don't think I would be allowed to do that."

She added: "I have a son who's a foodie, quite a lot of you know, he writes a lot about food, and my father was in the wine business - so they are two things that are very very close to my heart."
