Prior to touring the museum, The Prince and The President attended a meeting discuss the UK – Colombia bilateral relationship on the environment. The meeting was hosted by The Prince's International Sustainability Unit in collaboration with the British and Colombian governments.
The Prince said in a speech: "Mr President, you set the world a great example by your far-sightedness in these matters.
"Above all, though, I would like to take this opportunity to renew my heartfelt support for President Santos's efforts to lead Colombia to peace; and to a durable peace, which, as I said in a speech in Bogota, can best be based in the long run on a sound and harmonious relationship with the natural environment, upon which we all depend so crucially for our survival."
His Royal Highness and President Santos also went to the Darwin Centre to view exhibits about Colombia from the museum, the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew and other organisations.
They saw an exhibit of a new butterfly which has been named "Magneuptychia pax" to mark the Colombian peace process.
Meanwhile, the National Government of Colombia has awarded The Prince the Order of Boyaca (Orden de Boyaca) in the grade of Grand Cross Extraordinary.
The Order is the highest peacetime decoration of Colombia and the highest decoration that can be awarded to a foreigner. The honour recognises His Royal Highness’s charitable work and his commitment to friendship and co-operation between the two nations.
