The Prince of Wales in Japan

The Prince of Wales to visit Japan for the Enthronement of His Majesty Emperor Naruhito followed by a day of engagements in Tokyo

At the request of the British Government, The Prince of Wales will undertake an official visit to Japan to attend the Ceremony of Enthronement of His Majesty, Emperor Naruhito.

The Prince will be attending on behalf of Her Majesty The Queen. The visit will take place from 22nd to 23rd October and will include a day of engagements in Tokyo to celebrate British-Japanese connections.

Further details will be announced in due course.

• This will be The Prince Of Wales’s fifth visit to Japan having last visited in 2008.
• Emperor Naruhito acceded to The Chrysanthemum Throne upon the abdication of his father, Emperor Akihito, on 1st May 2019.
• The Prince attended the Ceremony of Enthronement of Emperor Naruhito’s father, Emperor Akihito on 12th November 1990.
