Representing Her Majesty The Queen, The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall attended the Royal Maundy Service at St George’s Chapel in Windsor today.
Maundy Thursday is the Christian holy day falling on the Thursday before Easter. It commemorates the Maundy and Last Supper of Jesus Christ with the Apostles.
During the Royal Maundy service, The Queen distributes gifts according to the number of years she has lived. This year, as Her Majesty is turning 96, The Prince of Wales distributed 96 pence worth of Maundy Money to 96 men and 96 women, on her behalf.
In 1952, the Maundy Service was the first public engagement in Her Majesty’s reign.
